SCO

It’s been a long time since I have followed this story; I thought it was dead. Back in 2003 SCO sued IBM because it said that IBM took code from the original UNIX source and stuck it in the Linux kernel. I thought it was totally bogus from the beginning, but I really knew they were dead in the water when IBM decided to defend rather than settle.

To me the dead giveaway was that SCO would not divulge what exactly had been put into the kernel, but just said it was hundreds of thousands of lines (maybe they thought they invented whitespace?) So then Novell gets involved because they say that SCO does not even own the rights to UNIX. Anyway it turns out that now SCO may owe Novell money, if they can scape up something to pay with! If only I had some money to short their stock back when it was so high priced.
